Somali Kitchen is a not for profit CIC bringing together women from minority and ethnic groups around the themes of healthy food, healthy families and healthy lifestyles.
Somali Kitchen is run by Somali and other migrant women for women from migrant backgrounds who are living in Bristol.
Somali Kitchen was set up in 2016 and registered in 2018. We are closely connected to our community and our development has been driven in response to needs.
We aim to empower women to develop a healthy food culture, build confidence in their abilities, and gain the skills they need to reach their full potential. We provide safe spaces for progression to develop the women to connect to inspire and empower each other and to access support and opportunities.
Somali Kitchen thrives to work with and support migrant women to adopt healthy lifestyles and mental wellbeing, become confident and able to access services, education, training, employment opportunities and/or to set up their own organisation/business in Bristol. Somali Kitchen's vision is to develop their own study centre for migrant women.
Somali Kitchen is dedicated to reduce social isolation and health inequalities among Somali and migrant women in Bristol. We provide women only workshops, family wellbeing sessions, and skills-based activities that promote healthy eating, physical and mental wellbeing.
Our mission is creating safe and inclusive spaces, where we help women access local services, improve their wellbeing, and strengthen their engagement within the community—supporting them to lead healthier, more connected, and independent lives. We focus on empowering women through confidence-building, skills progression and pathways to employment.

In Easton, we face challenges with the proliferation of fast food outlets around schools and the impact on our children's health. Somali Kitchen was born from a desire to offer healthier alternatives and preserve our food culture.
Our community members share powerful stories about the importance of creating safe spaces, promoting healthy eating, and celebrating our heritage. These voices drive our work.
I have children. I am worried about my children's life. I want them to be healthy, have a good life, good community. I don't like them eating bad food. I want my children to learn about healthy food.

This is the start of something powerful. We've been wanting to change things in our community, and I think this is the start of that.

It made me proud. This is very important for me to share my culture, and also my potential to my area. It was fantastic.
